A Charles Dicken's Weekend

This weekend Riverside, California will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of writer Charles Dickens. There will over 150 costumed performers portraying the characters from Dickens' novels. Musical acts, a marketplace with all sorts of "Victorian" items. There will be a workshop where you can create a Victorian hat with your choice of fabrics, flowers, feathers or whatever catches your fancy. Cost can be $5 to $15. Books, music, original art, original apparel, and lots of unusual items.


At 6 p.m. this evening at the Riverside Convention Center, 3443 Orange Street, for the price of $75 you can experience the Pickwick Pub Fundraiser.


Tomorrow is the official opening of the Festival at the Convention Center. Entrance to the Festival is Free. At 9:45 a.m., the Gordon Highlanders will hoist the Union Jack and at 10 a.m. Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens and Mr. Pickwick will open the Festival.
